South Side Spring

Jake comes home tomorrow from round two in Connecticut, and the neighborhood looks a lot different from when he left. The warm weather has made all the trees start to blossom. There are a bunch of trees with white flowers all over them, they are so pretty but smell God awful!!!

Max and I have been spending lots of time outside and going on walks. I have been working on increasing my mileage for the Pittsburgh Half Marathon.  It is challenging for me only because I know the pace I need to run at, but I have a problem slowing it down to that pace.  I am still pushing myself and running that 5k pace.  I am doing a long run Sunday and will force myself to slow it down to the half pace.
I always feel like if I am running slower people will be think "oh look at that girl she is slow, I can run faster," Or some negative thought like that, but whenever I see people running I think that it is so great to see others out running, and wonder if they are training too. I need to get the thought that others are judging me out of my head. blah!
Anyways.... while Jake has been away I have gone back to my natural color with some highlights mixed in.  I just needed some dimension in my hair, and my hair was over processed so this will help it to be healthy again!

(super cheesy but with out Jake to take the picture this will have to do)

Enough rambling... have a great Friday!

Healthy Fats?

Healthy Fats... It's definitely an oxymoron, but it's something I need to add to my diet.
You would think running and unhealthy are too words that wouldn't go together too, but they do. The other day after my run I felt so great and healthier than ever! After a visit with the doctor yesterday, running has been affecting my body once again.  I will never quit running, it's something I do for myself and enjoy it too much, so therefore I need to add some foods into my diet in order to remain healthy.

So just incase you are curious here are some healthy fats:Olive oil
Canola oil
Sunflower oil
Peanut oil
Sesame oil
Avocados
Olive
Nuts (almonds, peanuts, macadamia nuts, hazelnuts, pecans, cashews)
Peanut butter
Walnuts
Sunflower, sesame, and pumpkin seeds
Flaxseed
Fatty fish (salmon, tuna, mackerel, herring, trout, sardines(Yuck No Way!))

I found seven great recipes for a week of healthy fats!
Mediterranean Tuna Panini

Chicken and Farfalle with Creamy Walnut Sauce

Orange and Avocado Salad

Roasted Cod with Warm Tomato-Olive-Caper Tapenade

Tomato-and-Olive-Stuffed Portobello Caps

The Ultimate Guacamole

Wasabi Salmon Burgers

Yesterday

Yesterday Max and I ventured out and took a long walk... It was a little too long for Max because at the end he was no longer walking but being carried.
On our walk we met a Great Dane named Atticus.  His head was the size of Max, but he was such a gentle giant.  His owner said she used to have a long hair dachshund, and she also told us "last night Atticus ate two raw chicken breast, two raw fish fillets, and a bar of soap." He must have been hungry, but needless to say he was not feeling well yesterday.

Other iPhone pictures from our walk..

It's 75 degrees here today so we will be out walking again!

Running+Exploring

Now that I have officially decided to run the Pittsburgh Half Marathon, I have been working on adding more miles to my runs.  The weather has been great in Pittsburgh which is so nice since I hate long runs on the treadmill.
Side note- I read that constant running on treadmills leads to greater chance of stress fractures.  Really going for none this year considering I had two last year!
Anyways running is such a great way to see Pittsburgh, find new fun routes to run (three rivers trail is great) and of course get some exercise and a clear head!

My run across the river into the city from the South Side.

I love Nike+!

When I went to sign up for the half marathon it was closed to the public.  I really wanted to run so I joined the Alzheimer's team! I am raising money for a cure for the run.
Here is the site...

Funny Friday

(image found here)

It's true I always blog about Max, but he is so funny and provides Jake and I with so much entertainment. I can't even imagine how it's going to be when we have kids... I'll be a blogging fool!

Last night Max decided to sit in front of the fridge and make his whine/grunt/sigh noise. It really is a strange noise that can't be explained unless you have heard it.
You probably assume he was doing this in front of the fridge because he wanted food from the fridge, but actually we have been keeping his treats on the top of the fridge. He has been addicted to these treats called Greenies. So he sat in front of the fridge doing the noise, so we gave him one. He took it ran to the bedroom, ate it, and then returned to sitting in front of the fridge making the noise.
Jake took down the treats and it was clear he wanted another Greenie, but we can not give him to many other wise what comes out is disgusting and well green.
So he gave him a different small treat (I know spoiled) and then we hide them.
No more treats on the top of the fridge.

Through the Looking Glass

I'm sure everyone has read, watched or heard of Alice in Wonderland.
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was written in 1865 by Lewis Carroll, he then wrote a sequel called Through the Looking Glass, and What Alice Found There.
Do you ever remember shows or movies that you watched when you were little, but can't remember the name? All I could remember about a "scary" movie I watched when I was little, was a monster in it called the Jabberwock. After reading about Through the Looking Glass I learned that this story has been adapted into movies over the years. I also read the main characters that included the Red Queen, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, and the Jabberwock.  THIS MUST BE THE MOVIE!  So naturally I looked it up and Youtube (the scary Jabberwock seen specifically), and I came to two conclusions;
1. This was definitely the movie
2. Things you remember being scary when you are 6 are actually not scary at all, and actually kind of humorous.

Okay on to the point of this post!
My best friend, Jocelyn Wylie, is so creative and talented! She really needs to start a party planning business. Let me show you why...

She created these invitations for her daughter, Audra, first birthday party. The theme is Through the Looking Glass, and What Alice Found There.
Jocelyn designed the invites, printed them on paper she dyed herself, and the same with the envelopes. Simply Amazing!  If I  even attempted to create these it would go terribly wrong!
If these are the invites she made, you know the party is going to be absolutely amazing!
I loved them and just wanted to share how neat they are!

Max's Third Birthday

Max's third birthday was March first! We made him the birthday cupcakes from the previous post and he loved them!

Max has so many toys but we had to get him a gift.  We decided to take him to Petco and pick it out. He liked this stuffed, grunting hedgehog the best!

Weekend Review

It is still technically my weekend, but since I have a paper to do that will probably take me all day I wanted to post some weekend pictures right now.
On Friday night we decided to try out a new restaurant, Nakama!
And it was so delicious!

Saturday we just laid around, relaxed, and watched Hugo. The reason why we laid low Saturday was for the Athletic Trainer River Run 5K on Sunday.
It was the first 5K for me this year.
Check in was at the Stealers Indoor Practice Field, which is only a couple blocks from us, but Jake was so excited to check it out and be in there.
It was a great race run on the trail by the river. I ended up 39th out of 233 men and women, 2nd in my age group, and my time was 21:34!! So excited to have this time for my first time this season! Jake ran great too! His time was 23:02, 11th in his age group, and 67 overall!
Because I was second in the age group I received a medal.

Here is a link to the official times...

The rest of Sunday included breakfast at Double Wide Grill, hour and a half of hot yoga, baking cookies, and then breakfast again for dinner :) We love breakfast foods!

Have a Great Week!
